The highly-anticipated fight in a boxing ring will mark Ngannou’s professional debut. However, he trained as a boxer prior to his sterling MMA career and is currently undergoing training with Mile Tyson ahead of this fight.
Also, this Saturday’s fight will be his first inside a boxing ring since his release from Dana White’s company in January. He was UFC heavyweight champion but was stripped of the title in January after talks to a new contract failed.
Although the technical gap between the fighters is considerable, there is arguably no MMA fighter with a better chance than Ngannou. He reached great heights in his UFC career. In 2021, he knocked out arguably one of the greatest heavyweights in UFC history, Stipe Miocic, and became UFC’s first-ever heavyweight champion from Africa.
Coming to the fight, he last appeared in action when he defeated Ciryl Gane unanimously at UFC 270 in January 2022, his sixth win in a row.

The Gypsy King returns to the ring for the first time since defeating Derek Chisora in front of record-breaking crowds at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in December 2022.
The six-foot-nine heavyweight became unified heavyweight champion in 2015 when toppled longstanding holder Wladimir Klitschko. Later, he was stripped of two titles and vacated three others when he suffered from mental health issues leading to recreational drugs, alcoholism, and extreme weight gain.
But remarkably, he made a strong comeback, went on to compete in one of the great boxing trilogies against American Deontay Wilder, and won the WBC title back.
Francis Ngannou vs Tyson Fury: What Has Been Said?
Fury said after beating Whyte last year:
“Big Francis Ngannou is here today.
“He’s on my hit list in an exhibition fight, however he wants it: in a cage, in a boxing ring, boxing gloves, UFC gloves, we can make it happen. I think everyone wants to see it.
“He’s a monster of a guy, I’m a monster of a guy, so it will be a clash of the titans for sure.”
On the other hand, Ngannou has said:
“I’ve been waiting to meet Tyson in the ring for the past three years.
“My dream was always to box and to box the best. After becoming the undisputed MMA Heavyweight Champion, this is my opportunity to make that dream come true and cement my position as the baddest man on the planet.”
