While American Raquel Pennington and Brazilian Mayra Bueno Silva square off for the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship on the main card of UFC 297, which takes place this Saturday, January 20, Sean Strickland, an American, looks to defend his UFC Middleweight Championship crown against Dricus du Plessis.
Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada will host UFC 297. The main card begins at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT, while the early prelims begin at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT.

Strickland vs Du Plessis Fight Preview
In2008, Strickland made his professional debut. The 32-year-old, a former middleweight champion of King of the Cage, joined the UFC in 2014 and has a record of 14-5 in the octagon. In 2023, he went 3-0, defeating Abusupiyan Magomedov and Nassourdine Imavov before dominating Israel Adesanya in September to secure the middleweight championship.
Kickboxing champion Du Plessis won the 2012 W.A.K.O. Cadet World Championships. In 2020, the South African became a member of the UFC after going pro in 2013. In July, Du Plessis, who holds a 6-0 record in the octagon, defeated former champion Robert Whittaker via TKO. Out of all his victories with the corporation, just one has endured.
An open book, Strickland is a contentious trash talker. Du Plessis gained access to his mind by drawing on his experience, particularly his violent upbringing. As a result, at UFC 296 Strickland attacked du Plessis who was watching.
